Military Junta Orders Dissolution Of Suu Kyi's Party

Burma's Election Commission, appointed by the military junta, announced on Friday the dissolution of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party, led by the deposed Burmese leader, Aung San Suu Kyi .

The director of the Electoral Commission remodeled after the February 1 coup , Thein Soe, accused this formation of "electoral fraud" during the November elections of last year, the original justification used by the Army to carry out the coup. State that removed the democratic government of Suu Kyi. In addition, Soe called on the authorities to prosecute their leaders for "treason", reported local media "Myanmar Now".

Since the coup, the military has kept Suu Kyi under house arrest, against whom six charges are pending for crimes such as violating the Official Secrets Law, punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

The formation that governed the Nobel since 2015 once again swept the last elections in Burma and humiliated the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), linked to the military, which won 24 seats compared to 368 for the party of Suu Kyi.

For weeks, the pro-government media have been publishing daily lists of the alleged evidence presented by the Electoral Commission on the manipulation of more than 10 million votes committed by the NLD in the last elections.

Meanwhile, the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), which participated in these elections as international observers, has rejected the allegations of fraud when it presented its final report on the Burmese elections on Monday.

"We have not found evidence that the elections were rigged; on the contrary, we believe that the results are a broad representation of the will of the Burmese people," noted observer Chung Lun.

After the coup, the military junta headed by General Min Aung Hlaing promised to organize new elections after a year in power, in which the ruling party could not participate until the coup. During the military uprising, the military canceled the elected Parliament at the polls and detained part of the government, including Suu Kyi.
