A double suicide bombing at a restaurant in Mogadishu killed 14 people


At least 14 people were killed and twenty severely injured Thursday in Mogadishu by two suicide bombers who triggered the bomb in a restaurant in the center of Mogadishu frequented by affluent clients. This double attack is the deadliest attack in Somalia since early February and the suicide attack had killed 15 in a cafe in Mogadishu, adjoining a renowned hotel host many members and leaders of the Somali government. Interviewed by the AFP , Islamist insurgents Shebab, who claimed several attacks since they were driven out of Mogadishu in August 2011, said they had not "directly ordered" double attack, attributing it to "sympathizers "hostile to foreign military intervention in Somalia. A senior Somali security forces, Mohamed Dahir Abdulle, told AFP that "a suicide bomber blew himself up in the restaurant, the other (...) just before, killing 14 people." According to the government station Radio Mogadishu, "14 people were killed by two criminals" and twenty were seriously injured. Witnesses told AFP they saw many dead and injured in the restaurant, some very seriously affected, expressing concern that they do not survive their injuries. Among those killed in the attack included two television journalists Somali National is headquartered close to the restaurant in question, according to these witnesses. Urban fighting ceased in Mogadishu since the Shebab were driven by the embryonic Somali army, backed by the African Union force (Amisom). Fought also by the Ethiopian army, which entered Somalia in November, the insurgents lost last year almost all of their strongholds, but still control some areas of southern and central Somalia. Since leaving Mogadishu, they multiplied guerrilla operations and terrorist attacks, particularly in the capital.
