Saudi Arabia lifts a huge wall on the border with Yemen


Saudi Arabia is raising a huge security wall about 2,000 kilometers on its border with Yemen to prevent immigrants and smugglers entering the country . The barrier will be built from the Red Sea coast in the west to the border with Oman in the east, the BBC has revealed. Security has deteriorated in the Yemeni side after its former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh , was forced from office in February 2012 after 33 years in power, by the protests against his government. Since then, the military has gained ground in the countryBorder security has worsened dramatically after the revolution .Thousands of illegal immigrants, drug traffickers and arms dealers have tried to enter Saudi Arabia, one of the richest countries in the worldthrough the impoverished Yemen, the official Saudi Hamed al-AhmariRecently, five border guards have been shot dead by armed traffickers along the wall, added to Ahmari. The first part of the barrier has been built on the coast , reducing but not eliminating, the flow of illegal immigrants. The smugglers and militants have demonstrated ingenuity to circumvent the new frontier using to women, mules and secret ways to enter Saudi Arabia, reported BBC correspondents. Earlier this month, and with the backing of the UN, began reconciliation talks in Yemen, with the intention of drafting a new constitution and preparing for democratic elections in February next year.
