Africa: Death Toll From Flooding In Eastern South Africa Rises To 253

The authorities deploy military personnel to assist the population in order to prevent the chaos from causing looting and criminality.

At least 253 people have died in eastern South Africa due to severe flooding as a result of torrential rains in the region, where the country's president, Cyril Ramaphosa, traveled today to visit those affected.

The hardest hit region is the eastern province of KwaZulu-Natal, the third largest in the country, where the water has flooded homes and left many citizens incommunicado, without electricity and without running water.

GERMANY || Death Toll In West German Floods Rises To 135

The death toll from the devastating floods in western Germany now stands at 135, while the search for missing persons and the evacuation of citizens continues in areas where new floods are feared.

The authorities of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous in the country, and that of Rhineland Palatinate, the two affected federal states, fear that the discovery of victims continues in the rubble, amid the destruction left by the storms of the last days.

In the city of Heinberg, near the border with the Netherlands, hundreds of people had to be evacuated at night after breaking a containment dam, despite efforts to reinforce it.
