Over 80,000 killed in two years of Syrian revolt


More than 80,000 people nearly half of them civilians, have been killed in Syria since the start of the uprising against the regime of Bashar Assad, as announced on Sunday the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The uprising, which began in March 2011 with peaceful pro-democracy protests bloodily repressed by the regime, has been transformed into a deadly civil war that, according to the UN, also left 4.2 million displaced and 1.4 million refugees. The balance includes 70,257 deaths among civilians, soldiers and rebels and more than 12,000 reporters and pro-Assad militiamen, according to figures compiled by military and medical sources. The names OSDH 34,473 civilians, including 4,788 children and 3,049 women, 16,687 and 16,729 rebel soldiers and deserters. In addition there are 2,368 dead and 12,000 unidentified informants and pro Damascus militiamen killed. According to the OSDH, the figures do not cover the 10,000 detained by the regime and 2,500 members of the pro-Assad forces of the rebel prisoners.
