After Bashar al-Assad on Sunday rejected holding peace talks with its opponents, in hisfirst public speech in six months, the opposition rejected what was presented by the regime as a new peace plan. George Sabra , vice chairman of the opposition National Coalition, told Reuters that the plan that the dictator said in his speech "does not even deserve to be called an initiative." "Instead we should see it as a statement that will continue its war against the people of Syria, "he said. "The appropriate response is to continue resisting this regime unacceptable and that the Free Syrian Army continue its work until every inch of Syria is free," he said. The speech was widely seen as a response to UN mediator, Lakhdar Brahimi , who has been meeting with Russian and U.S. officials to try to overcome the differences between Washington and Moscow on a peace plan for Syria . Opponents of Assad foreigners were derogatory to the recent speech by Syrian dictator. "His comments are just repetitions of what has always said , "the Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu. "Seems like I'm locked in a room and only read the intelligence reports that are delivered," he said. The UN estimates that some 60,000 people died in the civil war in Syria, the most protracted and bloody conflict emerged in two years of unrest in the Arab world.
