14 killed in two attacks on NATO in Afghanistan


At least 14 people including two U.S. soldiers, have been killed in two terrorist attacks NATO base in Wardak province in central Afghanistan.The first attack was carried out by a suicide bomber triggered explosives by the door of the barracks, while the second attack was committed with a truck full of explosives. Spokesmen for the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks. A provincial government spokesman said several of the injured were in critical condition and therefore not be ruled out that the number of fatalities. The director of medical services of Wardak, Ghulam Mukhlis Farouk said that a total of 43 people had been admitted to the local hospital with injuries from the two attacks. According to witnesses the explosions tore through a market near the military base of the NATO and the dead and wounded were many civilians. Wardak and, specifically, Saidabad district is a stronghold of Taliban insurgents who have harassed frequently deployed forces of NATO and Afghan army. The data handled by United Nations indicate that in the first six months of this year a total of 1,145 civilians have been killed in violence in Afghanistan and about two thousand people have been injured.Most victims have been for Taliban attacks. A command of the ISAF (NATO mission in Afghanistan) admitted yesterday that the attacks had caused casualties among foreign, without specifying the number or nationalities.
