Saudi Arabia: Two killed in armed conflicts

One soldier and one protester died in Qatif, Saudi Arabia, during the Shiite demonstrations. According to interior ministry spokesman, Mansour Turkey, a security patrol shot by armed protesters aboard a motorcycle. One soldier was killed. followed a shootout in which a protester was killed and another wounded soldier. The incident took place Friday evening. A few days ago two other Shiite protesters had fallen dead and their deaths sparked attacks on government buildings in Katif. Saudi Arabia is inhabited mainly by Muslims sounites, but to the east is a large Shiite minority. The Shiites demand more rights, but the government denies discriminating against its Shiite minority.
