Nelson Mandela was successfully operated

"The former president underwent an endoscopic procedure to remove her about gallstones (...) the procedure was successful and Madiba is recovering, "said the government statement, using Mandela's clan name. The first black president of South Africa,  which came to power in a historic election in 1994 after decades of struggle against apartheid, remains a symbol of resistance against racism and injustice at home and around the world. Mandela was admitted to a Pretoria hospital last week after being airlifted from his hometown in Qunu, a rural and remote area of the Eastern Cape Province. Tests showed he had recurrent pulmonary infection and had developed  gallstones, the government statement said.  When he was admitted on December 8, l as authorities emphasized that there was no need to worry , although local media reports suggested that senior  government officials and people around them were caught off-guard by the news. Mandela spent 27 years in apartheid prisons , including 18 in a cell on Robben Island off the coast of Cape Town. He was released in 1990 and used his unparalleled prestige to promote reconciliation  between blacks and whites in support of the "rainbow nation" post-apartheid.  resigned in 1999 after a term as president and the last decade has been largely  removed from public life. Mandela was admitted to a Johannesburg hospital in 2011 with trouble  breathing, and again in February this year by abdominal pain. He was discharged one day  later after a comprehensive examination showed that there was nothing serious. Since then he has spent much time in Qunu . Their frail health prevents him from making public appearances in South Africa, but has continued  to receive both local and international high level, such as former President Bill  Clinton in July.
