Storming the Capitol: According To Media Reports, The US Department Of Justice Is Investigating Donald Trump

According to the Washington Post, there are indications that the ex-president could be prosecuted. Trump meanwhile again hints at a candidacy for 2024.

After the US Congress' committee of inquiry published numerous revelations about the behavior of former President Donald Trump in connection with the storming of the Capitol, the US Department of Justice should now also deal more closely with the circumstances. This is reported by the Washington Post newspaper. The question is whether Attorney General Merrick Garland could take criminal action against Trump. Critics accuse him of being too hesitant to proceed.

A Conspiracy That Ended In Violence

The investigative committee into the storming of the Capitol has made its findings public. They are shocking - and point to a clear responsible person.

The sun sets a suitably dramatic red over Washington, DC as nine members take their seats in a congressional chamber. Traditionally, congressional hearings are held earlier in the morning, but this is no ordinary session -- it's one meant to draw the attention of the entire nation.

For the first time in almost a year, the committee of inquiry into the violent storming of the Capitol met in public to present the results of its work to date. "The whole world is looking at us," said the panel's chairman, Democrat Bennie Thompson, in his opening statement.

USA: "I Had No Right To Overturn The Election"

Former US Vice President Mike Pence has publicly attacked Donald Trump for the first time. He described his statements on the storming of the Capitol as "un-American".

Former US Vice President Mike Pence has publicly contradicted ex-President Donald Trump for the first time. "I heard this week that President Trump said I had the right to overturn the election. President Trump is wrong, I had no right to overturn the election," Pence said during an appearance in Florida.

The idea that one person could elect the President of the United States is "un-American". The Bible-believing Republican was loyal to Trump for four years, but has distanced himself since the Capitol attack. He has long been said to have ambitions for a presidential candidacy.

Trump Supporters Sentenced To Five Years In Prison

Robert P. is said to have pelted police officers with a wooden board and a fire extinguisher when they stormed the Capitol in early January. Now he has to be imprisoned for five years.

A court has imposed the harshest sentence to date against a supporter of then US President Donald Trump. It's about the participation in the storm on the Capitol just under a year ago. Robert P. was therefore sentenced to a prison term of 63 months, i.e. around five years. This is the longest sentence ever imposed on any of the more than 700 people charged in connection with the attack.

Kyle Rittenhouse Case: A Gift For Donald Trump

The then 17-year-old Rittenhouse killed two people and was acquitted of self-defense. It is not his acquittal that is scandalous, but the system.

It's easy to forget. To see the US President traditionally pardon turkeys and slowly prepare for Thanksgiving with the family. Undisturbed by politics, injustices and social tensions, which after all are easier to suppress with a Joe Biden instead of a Donald Trump in the White House. But the Kyle Rittenhouse case brings back in the USA what was still the reality on the streets of many American cities last summer and what should not be suppressed.

The former US president has gained time in coming to terms with the storming of the Capitol. A hearing on the controversial documents is scheduled for November 30th.

An appeals court in Washington granted an urgent application by Trump, suspending the planned handover of the documents to Congress at the last minute for the time being. The court scheduled a hearing on November 30th. The step was "in no way to be understood as a decision in the matter," said the three judges.

Capitol Attack | Committee Wants To Bring Steve Bannon To Justice

Donald Trump's former chief strategist refuses to testify about the storming of the US Capitol. The responsible congress committee does not want to accept that.

The committee of inquiry to come to terms with the attack on the US Capitol wants to bring former Trump adviser Steve Bannon to justice. The committee unanimously adopted a report finding Bannon's disregard for Congress.

In a next step, the House of Representatives, dominated by US President Joe Biden's Democrats, has to vote on it before the case goes to court. Bannon was former President Donald Trump's chief strategist for a few months.
