Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will pay his first official visit to the United Arab Emirates on Thursday since the establishment of bilateral relations.
A senior official in Netanyahu's office declined to comment on reports from Israeli public radio, the Haaretz newspaper and other media outlets, according to AFP.
Benjamin Netanyahu's visit comes less than two weeks before his next election, Israel's fourth in less than two years.
He has been in power since 2009 and, as an experienced prime minister, has sought to highlight his achievements as Israel's top politician in his election campaign.
According to Israeli reports, Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with UAE leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Abu Dhabi Airport.
He will then travel to Jerusalem to hold talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the corona vaccine nation.
Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to visit the UAE and Bahrain in February, but his trip was delayed due to travel restrictions imposed by Israel to prevent the Corona epidemic.
It may be recalled that the UAE had established relations with Israel in August last year and announced its decision contrary to the policies of the Arab countries for decades, while other Muslim countries and institutions, including the Palestinians, had expressed strong anger.
Israel and the United Arab Emirates announced in August that they would normalize relations and end the UAE's long-running boycott of Israel through government-level banking and business agreements.
The neighboring country, Bahrain, later signed an agreement with the UAE on September 15 at the White House to normalize relations with Israel.
The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are the third and fourth Arab countries to establish relations with Israel, while Egypt and Jordan signed peace agreements with Israel in 1979 and 1994, respectively.Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will arrive in the United Arab Emirates today for his first official visit after a month-long delay.
According to the international news agency, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is arriving in Abu Dhabi on Thursday on his first visit to the United Arab Emirates. The Israeli prime minister was due to arrive in Abu Dhabi last month, but his visit was postponed due to the Corona epidemic.
During his visit to the UAE, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu will hold talks with the UAE leadership on the implementation of the Ibrahim Accord, while also reviewing the establishment of the UAE Embassy in Israel.
The visit was not immediately confirmed by the Israeli prime minister's office and the United Arab Emirates, but international news agency sources said arrangements for the visit had been completed.
An agreement was reached between the UAE and Israel to restore diplomatic relations in August 2020, after which travel ties between the two countries were restored and an embassy was agreed to be opened.
Rumors were circulating last year that the Israeli prime minister had paid a secret visit to the United Arab Emirates, which was confirmed by an airline monitoring website, but both countries denied the reports.
