Violent protests continue in the US state of Minnesota over the killing of an unarmed black man in police custody

Violent protests against the killing of an unarmed black man in police custody in the US state of Minnesota have continued for a third day. Protesters also damaged several properties and set fire to some buildings.

As the protests intensified, a state of emergency was declared across the state and the army was called in to quell the protests. Authorities in the state have deployed 500 troops to quell the protests. The protests erupted after a video surfaced showing a 46-year-old black man in police custody saying in a low voice that he was not breathing.

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order 

That would remove legal exemptions from content posted online on major social media platforms Twitter and Facebook. Critics of President Trump have condemned the move, calling it a dubious legal act of political revenge. Following the approval of the executive order, social media watchdogs in the United States could take legal action against other online platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, for blocking or editing users' content, according to AFP. 

According to AFP, President Trump's move came a day after Twitter called two of his tweets misleading. It should be noted that on Wednesday, when the social networking site Twitter had labeled a fact check on two of President Trump's tweets regarding the postal ballot, then the US President had warned by tweeting that

'a big step is about to take place'.

President Trump called Twitter's labeling of his tweets a fact check tantamount to stifling freedom of expression. President Trump has said that Twitter is trying to interfere in the US presidential election in 2020.
