At least 19 children have died this Saturday when exploding a gas cylinder located in a school van in the town of Gujrat, in northeast Pakistan, as reported by Radio Pakistan. There were between 20 and 25 children in the van, all students in a kindergarten, at the time in which registered the explosion, according to local police quoted by the Pakistani newspaper Dawn. A dozen children were injured. The police chief of Gujrat has said that the van driver has escaped with life. The explosion would have occurred after a fire broke out in the vehicle, according to early indications. The elected prime minister of Pakistan, Nawaf Sharif, who won the May 11 parliamentary elections, has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and ordered the authorities of the province of Punjab to provide the best medical care to the affected. Also, the 'premier' interim Pakistani Mir Hazar Jan Joso has also moved its shock and sadness for what happened to those affected. Many vehicles in Pakistan, beset by problems of energy supply are powered by compressed natural gas, a cheaper method than gasoline. The explosions of gas cylinders are common in the Central Asian country.
