U.S. welcomes Israeli president's remarks on Iran

The U.S. government on Friday expressed satisfaction regarding the statements he made on Thursday, the president of Israel, Shimon Peres, on Iran, which caused a controversy in the Jewish state's political class. Peres said he was "convinced" that Obama will fulfill his commitment to prevent Iran from developing an atomic bomb and that this "is not only designed to satisfy Israel." The president also acknowledged that Israel can not attack Iran without U.S. assistance. "We were very happy to hear the statements conveyed yesterday (Thursday) President Peres on this issue," said deputy spokesman of President Barack 0bama, Josh Earnest, during a press conference. "The commitment of President (0bama) to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and gain is unshakable" and this position "we have repeatedly expressed publicly. Know also did part of numerous private conversations that occur daily between government Obama "and Israel, he added. Politicians close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, quoted by local media, strongly criticized statements by Peres, 89, whose moral authority is respected but his position is rather honorific. Netanyahu is considered to favor a hardline strategy in relations with Tehran and regularly insists on the right of Israel to defend itself against a nuclear-armed Iran of course, it would be a threat to the Jewish state. In recent weeks, Israeli media reports echoed leaders based on statements that would be imminent Israeli military action against Iran's nuclear program. Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are in favor of an attack, but other leaders, especially the military and intelligence services, are opposed.
