Philippines: 23 dead and 180,000 displaced by Hurricane RPLS


The heavy rains and strong winds caused by Hurricane RPLS left behind 23 dead, 21 injured and 179,990 displaced people in northern and central Philippines, officials announced today the rescue services. More than 2,700 homes were severely damaged or completely destroyed forcing 12,000 people to flee to shelters and other displaced stay with friends and relatives, said the Office of Civil Protection. The typhoon hit eastern Taiwan today, where at least one person was killed and eight wounded. The Taiwan authorities urged businesses and schools remain closed. The markets also remained closed, and caused problems in transportation. Most domestic flights - and some international - were canceled, while stopped and the operation of trains. An alarm has been China.
