Thirteen people were killed in all the past 48 hours in northern Pakistan bordering Afghanistan during three raids using drones, authorities announced Sunday and witnesses. These attacks came as Pakistan celebrated Eid al Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Drone raids are a source of controversy in Pakistan, where many politicians speak out against what they see as a violation of national sovereignty. For the United States, engaged in the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan, the drones are however an essential tool to combat terrorism.
