More than 10,000 Iraqis returning to the country fleeing violence in Syria


More than 10,000 Iraqi refugees in Syria who were returned to their country in the last six days fleeing the violence, warned on Tuesday (24) the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Many of those affected have been consulted by the UNHCR expressed its fear for the security conditions in Iraq, but chose to return before the situation of increased degradation in Syria. In the first six months of the year, 13,000 Iraqis returned to their country from Syria, a number almost reached in just one week now. In last Tuesday (17), the Iraqi government asked its citizens to leave Syria  due to "increased attacks against Iraqis." The spokesman for the Iraqi government, Ali Dabbagh, said Baghdad has asked the parties to the conflict not to attack Syrian citizens because "the Iraqis in Syria are guests, not part of the conflict."
