Iran: legislation; blow to Ahmadinejad, Khamenei wins

The second round of parliamentary elections yesterday in Iran have revealed a new blow to a victory for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. And 'what emerges from the first data released by the Iranian Interior Ministry on the basis of 80% of the ballots counted. Of the 65 seats out of 290 in Palio, 20 were won by the "sovereign united front," conservative coalition tied to Khamenei. Groups close to Ahmadinejad should be 8 and 7 seats each to independent and opposition to the reformists. The first round for the other 225 seats was held last March 2, and the victory was always of the conservative parties. Yesterday's elections are considered as a sort of great trial of strength - or weakness for Ahmadinejad - in view of the June 2013 presidential election.
