About 120 people die calcined in a textile factory in Bangladesh


At least 120 people have died this Sunday calcined in a nine-storey garment factory on the outskirts of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, as confirmed by a spokesman for the fire department. "This morning we have recovered 120 bodies and the death toll could rise, "acknowledged the CEO of the fire brigade, Mohamad Abu Nayim Shahidulá. The spectacular fire that ravaged the complex, located in the industrial belt of the capital, has been unleashed on the ground floor late on Saturday. The fire spread rapidly, trapping hundreds of workers. Authorities are investigating the origin of the fire, as has sustained the local police chief, Badrul Alam, the Bangladeshi newspaper 'The Independent'. Local media reported earlier that there could be about 300 injured in the factory. One of the survivors quoted by the newspaper, Abu Taleb, said that firefighters have taken half an hour to get to the factory. Many workershave tried unsuccessfully to douse the flames. In this sense, Taleb has said that firefighters not adequately equippedto deal with the spectacular fire, which has slowed the flames off. Bangladesh is home to about 4,500 garment factories producing for multinationals like Tesco, Wal-Mart, H & M, Marks & Spencer, Kohl's and Carrefour.
