Bloody car bombing in Beirut

The blast killed at least eight people including the chief of police intelligence,  in a predominantly Christian neighborhood in the capital of Lebanon. The attack has shocked the killed Lebanon  Wissam al-Hassan, (pictured) , chief of intelligence, as confirmed by official sources. 


The facades of several buildings eventually destroyed by the blast, while several vehicles were burnt. As the explosion occurred a few meters from a headquarters March 14 opposition movement, many Lebanese blame Syria for the attack. The parties of the March 14 movement rival coalition government, dominated by Shiite organization Hezbollah, an ally of Syria . "The explosion in Ashrafiyeh is a message from the Syrian regime, which is falling apart.'s A message in order to sink into fear and horror to the Lebanese," said Nihad the Mashnuk deputy of the opposition Movement for the Future.  The Syrian government denied any responsibility. 















A few minutes after the bombing, Syrian media issued a statement that the information minister, Omran al-SOABI , condemned the attack as a "cowardly act of terrorism."  "I felt like the ground was shaking under my feet. Then glass fell on us," said an employee who works in a bank near the scene of the attack. Two of his colleagues were wounded."The explosion was huge. opened a large hole in the ground , "said an aide to the civil protection service. Television showed a large cloud of black smoke and people lying in the rubble. Security sources said the explosion occurred in Sassin Square, in a neighborhood of mostly Christian.















The official news agency said, citing figures from Civil Defense, said the attack took place 200 meters from an office of the Kataeb (Phalangist) party Christian Lebanese oppositionhostile to the Syrian regime of Bashar Al Assad. Near the place works well Radio Voice of Lebanon. The agency said that among the wounded were more than twenty people injured by broken windows in their homes caused by the outbreak.

















The teams of the Civil Defense and Red Cross arrived at the scene to transport victims to hospitals in the area, and a fire broke out at the site of the explosion. Finally, the agency noted that the Interior Minister Marwan Sharbal, visited the scene of the attack and ordered security forces to accelerate research to clarify the causes of the outbreak. The blast shattered the windows of nearby buildings and produced scenes of panic among the population, as in the ABC mall, located just meters from where the incident occurred
