Saudi Arabia begins to "lose hope" in the Annan Plan for Syria

Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Saud al-Faisal, has admitted that the Gulf countries are "beginning to lose hope" that the peace plan proposed by international mediator for Syria, Kofi Annan can resolve the conflict. Prince Saud urged the Security Council in implementing Annan's proposal to Chapter VII of the UN Charter, a move that would open the door to the possible use of force in Syria. In this regard, the minister said that the Council is "responsible" to fulfill a series of "obligations" and take "appropriate measures" to ensure the immediate implementation of the peace initiative. The plan of the UN mediator and the Arab League presented a ceasefire since mid-April, but violence has continued since then, despite the presence of an observer mission on the ground. Free Army Sirius, an umbrella group armed rebels and military deserters regime of Bashar al-Assad said on Monday it abandons its commitment to the truce.
