Cyclone Phet intensifies


The city poses the threat of storm during next 24 to 38 hours due to low atmospheric pressure in Arabian Sea, sources said Wednesday. According to Cyclone alert-2, the tropical cyclone, located some 1000 kilometers of south-southwest of Karachi and is expected to move initially in a eastern direction in the next 24 hours. Steps have been taken to strictly follow the restrictions imposed on sea bathing. According to Met Office, the atmospheric pressure is extremely low in the mid and northern Arabian Sea. Met department has advised fishermen not to venture in to the sea from Thursday to Saurday. This weather situation can cause storm and heavy rainfall during next 24 to 36 hours in Sindh-Makran coast including Karachi. Authorities have issued the orders to all departments due to expected storm to remain alert. District and civilian governments are also advised to make sure their rescue and rehabilitation activities. Residents living in tropical areas of Saddar, Kimari, Bin Qasim, Korangi and Landhi Town will may effect.
